Small Groups

What Is a Small Group?

A small group is a gathering of approximately 4-10 people who commit to gathering regularly for the common practices that have been part of the church since the very beginning: learning, prayer, care and fellowship. (Acts 2) Small groups connected to FCRC meet in various places and times. Each group has a unique reason to gather but each is part of our congregational commitment to live the Up, In and Out rhythms of Jesus’ life.

What Happens in a Small Group?

Fellowship in Christ’s name is at the heart of all of our FCRC small groups. Feasting on the Word groups meet to discuss the text and sermon for the week using materials prepared by the pastors. Feasting groups might continue meeting for several years or form just to discuss a particular worship series. Other study groups -men’s, women’s, young adult -choose to study a book of the Bible, a book about the Bible or another spiritually thoughtful books. Still other groups meet to watch movies, read novels or go walking on some of the beautiful walks in the lower mainland. A women’s prayer retreat is held yearly in late spring at one of our local retreat centres. A men’s breakfast group meets every Saturday at Ricky’s.

Why Would I Join a Small Group?

Our life with God is meant to be shared. All are welcome at the table of God! Small groups are a big part of building bridges to the “one new humanity” (Ephesians 2:15) God is redeeming us for. There really is no such thing as a “solo” Christian. We gather often so that we can grow in Christ holistically, confident that God is making all things new.

 Who Leads a Small Group?

Small groups at FCRC are led by a variety of leaders who receive support from the pastors and who meet regularly for equipping and encouragement. Each with their own specific and unique way of gathering a small group in Christ’s name, they all share a commitment to authentic love of God and neighbour through their small group.
