Moses Possessed the Tools to Solve His Own Problems.

Exodus 17 tells the story of Moses striking the rock and providing water for the thirsty Israelites. While studying this passage, I came across this comment by James MacTyre:

God reminded Moses that he possessed the tools to solve his own problems.  "Take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go." (Exodus 17:5)  It may be that those who grumble in frustration and wail in trembling simply need to shut up and go do what they already know will work. Congregations and their pastors spend so much time reinventing the wheels of methodology that they fail to accomplish the goals of the gospel.

Do we have the answers to our problems in our hands already?

In Lent we need to ask God to show us the solutions he has already provided us to relieve us of our spiritual thirsts.

In Lent we need to ask God to keep us from distraction and go do what we already know will work to accomplish the gospel.
